Lake County Health Department Takes Next Step to Address Regional Opioid Crisis

With the expansion of the MAT program, more people will have access to treatment for Opioid addiction

A group of leaders gathered today to announce the expansion of the Lake County Health Department’s Medication-Assisted Treatment program. Through a grant of $325,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration, the program is doubling its capacity to serve people struggling with opioid addictions. The program is also adding medical provider hours, substance abuse counselors, a licensed clinical social worker and providing clients with access to primary care through its community health center system. Participants at today's press conference included Adam Carson, the Health Department’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, Lake County Board of Health Chairman T.E. Sashko, Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor, Senator Melinda Bush (Illinois 31st District), Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim, Health Department program coordinator Susan McKnight, Congressman Bob Dold (10th Congressional District of Illinois), and Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose.
