Mundelein Teen Sentenced in Stabbing Death of Half-Sister
The 15-year-old girl was sentenced to juvenile prison until her 21st birthday, according to media reports.

A 15-year-old Mundelein girl entered a guilty plea Tuesday to a first-degree murder charge for the stabbing death of her 11-year-old half-sister, according to the Daily Herald.
The juvenile, who is not being named because of her age, was sentenced to juvenile prison until her 21st birthday, but could be eligible for parole after serving five years, the newspaper reports.

She has also been ordered to undergo βintensive mental health evaluations,β the Daily Herald reports. As part of the negotiated plea agreement, prosecutors dropped two of the three first-degree murder charges originally filed against the teen.
The teen has been held at the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Justice Center since she was accused of stabbing her half-sister, Dora Betancourt, a fifth-grade student at St. Johnβs Lutheran School in Libertyville, over 30 times following an argument in their townhome on Woodhaven Court in Mundelein on the morning of Jan. 21, according to media reports.

Police said the argument stemmed from the older sibling believing Betancourt did not appreciate all she did for her, according to CNN.
