Well, at least, for now.

There are some prized freshmen making waves on the Rams' high school track team. As many as 20 ninth graders could be used at the varsity level.

"Out of 65 kids we have only eight seniors." Coach Brent Pitt noted.

"We really have a good freshmen class," he added.

Will Brewster is one of the young stars. At the recent Lake Michigan Invitational at Carthage College, he broke the school's freshman record in the 3200 meters (9:59.02).

In fact, he shattered it.

The old standard- 10:23.6- was set in 1984.

"We knew he was a talent coming in," Pitt said.

Senior Kevin Dickson is another distance runner to watch this spring.

Other top seniors include Kendall Smith in the springs, Chris McGaha in the pole vault and Brian Valdivia in the field events.

The junior class has some speed and should get help from Michael Katona and 400 runner Matt Mohrfeld.

"Matt is a tall kid and a good-looking sprinter," Pitt said.

In addition to Brewster, another freshman standout is Joel Valdivia. Other newcomers include Luke Zygmunt, Daniel Zimmerman, Justin Vargo, Ubaldo Tercero, Gerald Sterno, Brett Seaholm, Jacob Schrimpf, Thomas Ruzzier, Josh Pennington, Devon Osburn, Nate Malinski, Mark Long, Erik Lasaine, Sean Keever, Robert Furey, David Crisp, Tim Burks, and Andru Bittner.

Note: We have numerous paper copies saved over the years, but not all of them. We are trying to archive as many as possible.
