Rauner Stops Yingling from Pulling a Fast One with Veto of SB2544

1. The existing merit based appointment is immediately accountable to the voters and taxpayers. If the Assessor is an elected position, the voters might have to wait out the next election cycle to make a change

2. Cook County has an elected assessor and the consequences have led to corruption and favoritism at the expense of the middle working class.

3. Yingling's bill is a creature of Springfield and corrupt Chicago politics. He wanted you to believe that politicizing a professional occupation will lower our property tax bill and protect it from the "politically connected".

4. Yingling's bill has nothing to do with lowering our property taxes. If Rauner signed the measure, the position wouldn't be up for election until 2020, taking office in 2021. I don't know about you, but we need progress and reform on our property system before the middle of 2021.
