The Saint Gilbert Girls Volleyball season ended after a busy fall. The school sponsors teams at the 5th through 8th Grade Level who participate in the Northern Illinois Catholic Conference. This is their second year in the conference but Saint Gilbert has always had a strong program and its future looks promising.
Once the girls graduate to 8th Grade, they qualify to have championship banners raised in their gym. That’s why development of a team in the earlier grades is so critical. For the 7th grade girls, who will be in a position for that honor next year, this season was a stepping-stone.
In addition to playing a full slate of 13 games in their regular season, the team undertook additional challenges by participating in 4 tournaments. In the first three tournaments, they competed against other 7th grade teams and they performed well, placing 1st in one while taking 2nd in two others. However, in the final tournament, hosted by Saint Gilbert, the team decided to challenge themselves by competing in the 8th grade tournament. Although they did not place in this tournament, the girls played hard against some very difficult teams.

Finishing the year with an 8-5 record, the team qualified for a 3rd in the conference and finished 4th at the conference tournament. With this foundation laid, the girls can’t wait to come back more skilled next year. The coaches are very proud of the commitment of their girls. Meanwhile, both the coaches and the girls are thankful for the school’s continued support and, of course, the support of the families.
