Saint Gilbert School Sends Another Runner to State
SGS Runner Goes to State Three Times in a Year

The 2019 Cross Country season wound down to a single racer in a single race because, for the second straight year, Saint Gilbert 7th Grader Izzy B. qualified for the State finals as an individual. Just two weeks prior, her Girls Varsity Cross Country Team finished Second in their conference.
At Sectionals, while her team fell a bit short, Izzy B. qualified for State as an individual by placing 7th out of the top 10 runners. The State Meet was slated to be run at ISU in Bloomington to be run the very next weekend.
But she saved the best for last. Two weeks ago, at State, Izzy took 18th out of 228 runners earning her a medal.

Not only is this back-to-back years where Izzy traveled downstate
to represent Saint Gilbert School at the State Cross Country finals,
but, if you consider last spring, she also qualified for the State Track
meet in the 1600, meaning Izzy has been to State 3 times in a single year.
Izzy has seen a lot of success (and a lot of cornfields) along the way.

Her coaches, Debra Day and Stacey Krzwanas, are proud of their runner.
When asked about her continued success at the sport, Izzy said, “I love to run. At the beginning of the season I make it my goal to qualify for State. That goal motivated me to work hard all summer and all season long. It’s an honor to run at the State meet and represent my school surrounded by some of the best runners in the state.”
One Cross Country parent commented that “the best thing about Izzy is her modesty. You’d never know that Izzy is a star runner because she just does what she has to do.”
Founded in 1944, Saint Gilbert Catholic School has been providing value-based education for nearly 75 years. Saint Gilbert has been honored by the U.S. Department of Education for Academic Excellence when it was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2017.
