Teen Guilty In Attempted Car Heist That Lead To Shooting
An 18-year-old Chicago woman who allegedly worked with four other boys to try and steal an elderly man's car faces up to four years in pris

LAKE COUNTY, IL — An 18-year-old Chicago woman pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and conspiracy to commit a burglary charges in connection with an attempted car theft that lead to an elderly man fatally shooting a teen outside his Old Mill Creek home in August, prosecutors said. Diamond Davis, of the 5000 block of Martin Luther King Drive, entered the guilty pleas Thursday morning in Lake County Court.
She was ordered to remain held on a $1 million bail until her sentencing, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 18. She faces up to three years in prison for a felony conspiracy to commit burglary charge and up to one year in jail for a misdemeanor criminal trespass to motor vehicle charge, according to a news release from the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.
Meanwhile, four other co-defendants who allegedly worked with Davis and the teen who was fatally shot to try to steal the man's vehicle, are charged in juvenile court. Those cases are ongoing, prosecutors said.

The group went to the home in 17600 block of West Edwards Road in Old Mill Creek at about 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 12. The homeowner, a 75-year-old licensed firearm owner with a permit to carry a concealed weapon, told investigators he noticed a suspicious black SUV in front of his house and a group of people that appeared to be trying to break into his car, police said.
Armed with a small-caliber revolver, the homeowner went outside to investigate what was going on and shouted at the group to leave.

"The homeowner indicated that as he was standing on his porch, there were two male individuals who quickly approached him on his property at his porch. One of those individuals was holding something in his hand. The 75-year-old homeowner indicated that out of fear for his safety and his wife's safety, he discharged his firearm," Sgt. Chris Covelli said. "What we've determined is one of the rounds that was discharged from his firearm did strike this 14-year-old male in the head."
Four other teens, all boys under the age of 18, were originally charged with in adult court but those cases have since been transferred to juvenile court, authorities said.
