Women's Residential Services Program Marks 30 Years of Service

The Lake County Health Department program is for women with addictions.

Lake County officials, Women’s Residential Services (WRS) program alumni, family members, and staff joined on April 16 in Vernon Hills to celebrate the 30th anniversary of helping women with addictions through the WRS program at the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center.

WRS was established in 1986 through funding from the Illinois Department of Human Services’ Department of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and the program has provided services to 2,395 women and 1,204 children since its inception.

The event included sharing of stories by alumni and family, facility tours, presentation by organization leaders, and light snacks.

About WRS:
WRS is a Dual Diagnosis Capable (DDC) residential treatment program for chemically dependent women and their children. Priority is given to pregnant and parenting women and intravenous drug using women. Individualized treatment focuses on developing a chemical-free lifestyle through building recovery and resiliency skills, and improving parenting skills. Originally located on the top floor of Winchester House on Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, it moved to its present location in 1997.
