SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Continuing his efforts to strengthen local governments’ revenue sources without forcing them to raise property taxes, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is pushing for legislation which requires the state to release monies collected through motor fuel taxes, video gaming, the 911 surcharge and other fees owed to municipalities.
“Our state continues to operate without a budget, and now the money our local governments depend upon is in grave danger,” Yingling said. “Such sources of revenue are not allowed to be dispersed for anything else in the state budget. The wellbeing of our roads and communities must not be a bargaining chip in on going budget negotiations.”
Yingling is backing House Bill 4305, which was filed to provide local municipalities the funds that they receive from gaming operations and other taxes. Without the appropriation from the state, they cannot access the money. This year, Yingling has voted in support of several pieces of legislation that would restore the funding of essential services.
“We cannot abandon our residents and the funds their hometowns depend upon during the budget impasse,” Yingling said.
Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Gurnee, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
