GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, doubled down on his established record of fighting for the taxpayer and for more efficient government with the passage of his measure to consolidate governmental bodies out of a House committee on Wednesday.
“Our state has more units of local government than any other, and these governmental bodies continue to be a drain on the taxpayers,” Yingling said. “My measure puts more power back in the voters’ hands by allowing them to do away with multiple, redundant taxing bodies. This measure will also enable governmental bodies to run more efficiently and drive hard working families’ property taxes down.”
Yingling’s legislation, House Bill 4501, is the product of talks on government consolidation and efficiency. The bill would permit counties to disband units of local government by voter referendum. The measure passed out of committee with bi-partisan support Wednesday, and it will go to the House floor for consideration.
“The residents of Illinois cannot continue to be the government’s debit card,” Yingling continued. “I continue to be a strong advocate for policies that save taxpayer dollars, and am pleased my bill to enable the consolidation of governmental bodies by voter referendum passed out of committee.”
Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Gurnee, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
