GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – As a part of his ongoing efforts to apply pressure on lawmakers who did not support his and Governor Rauner’s property tax freeze proposals, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is reminding residents to join his petition drive in support of a plan to freeze property taxes across the state. He is also encouraging residents to attend Lake County’s Property Tax Appeal Seminars.

“Our area is notorious for having incredibly high property taxes,”Yingling said. “Illinois families are fed up with out of control taxes and fees. My petition drive is a way for them to put pressure on Springfield to enact real, common sense property tax relief.”

Yingling sponsored several tax relief measures that stalled in the General Assembly, including legislation that would immediately freeze property tax levies. Under the proposals, property taxes could only be increased if the voters approved hikes through referendum. The petition urges the General Assembly to support Yingling’s efforts to give tax relief to local residents. He is also encouraging constituents to utilize Lake County’s free seminars on appealing their property tax assessments.

“I am making every effort to fight for property tax relief for families in our community—through legislation, my petition, and by encouraging folks to attend the county’s property tax appeal seminars,” Yingling said. “Seminars like those offered by the county can help residents appeal their assessments and hopefully save a few dollars on their tax bills. I encourage everyone to attend.”

People interested in signing or circulating the petition or learning more about the property tax appeal seminars should contact Yingling’s full time constituent service office by phone at 847-231-6262, by email at repsamyingling@gmail.com or by visiting 20 N. Whitney St., Suite A in Grayslake. They can also visit his website, www.repsamyingling.com and his Facebook page: repsamyingling. The next appeal seminars will be September 12, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the College of Lake County’s Grayslake campus and September 15 from 4:00 p.m to 7 p.m. at College of Lake County’s Vernon Hills campus.

Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
