ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, an advocate for reforms that reduce the tax burden on middle-class families, introduced new legislation to do away with taxpayer funded stipends for local elected officials.
“Hard-working Illinois families should not be subsidizing politicians’ allowances,” Yingling said. “Families are constantly being forced to do more with less, and I believe our leaders in government should follow suit.”
Yingling introduced House Bill 3759 to eliminate stipends for various local elected offices. Existing law permits County and Township officials to collect a taxpayer-funded stipend in addition to their annual salaries. If passed and signed into law, the measure would be effective immediately.
“I believe the two overriding issues Illinois continues to face are our state’s lack of a budget and the continuing need for economic reforms that lift up the middle class,” Yingling said. “My measure to remove taxpayer funded allowances for local elected officials is part of my continued work to protect taxpayer dollars and to restore trust in our local and state government.”
