GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – To help residents effectively and responsibly rid their homes of medicine they longer need or that has expired, and to help keep potentially harmful substances out of children’s hands, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging people to drop their old medicine off at any number of free collections sites on September 26 as a part of the 10th Annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

“It is disturbing that prescription drugs are abused,” Yingling said. “Users are often taking medications found in an acquaintance’s medicine cabinet, and it is very important that we take the necessary steps to properly dispose of unwanted and expired medicines.”

On September 26, Illinois will join many other states in the 10th Annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event will provide residents with designated locations for dropping off their expired or old prescription drugs in a safe and easy way. In addition to encouraging his constituents to participate in this important event, Yingling was a sponsor of the Heroin Crises Act and supported a new law which also sets up a state-wide medication take back program to ensure more accessible drug disposal options for Illinoisans.

“Responsibly disposing of old medication that would normally collect dust on shelves is an effective way to ensure they don’t end up in our children’s hands or on the streets where they are illegally sold,” Yingling said. “I strongly encourage residents to take advantage of this Take Back Event at the various drop off sites in Lake County.”

Between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday, September 26, unused prescription drugs can be dropped off at: Grayslake Police Department, 10 S. Seymour Ave.; Hainesville Police Department, 100 N. Hainesville; Wauconda Police Department, 311 S. Main St. For a more complete list of drop-off locations, please call Yingling’s full time constituent service office at 847-231-6262.
