GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is calling attention to income inequity among men and women and continuing his fight for fair pay for all residents.
“The issues of income inequality affect hard-working women the most, and we need to not only recognize this sad reality, but we need to take legislative action to help ensure our families have the means to support and provide for themselves,” Yingling said. “When our middle class has more money in their pockets, they are more likely to go out and support our local economies.”
A report released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that women working full-time earned an average of $657 per week, while their male counterparts earned an average of $819 per week.
Yingling is supporting House Resolution 1021, which designates April 12 as Pay Equity Day in Illinois, and he is supporting House Bill 4034, which requires government employers, and agencies, and contractor to post equal pay certificates to prove they are in compliance with fair pay statutes among men and women.
“Unfortunately, far too many women still receive less pay for the same work that men do,” Yingling continued. “As a lawmaker, I have a responsibility to enact policies that protect everyone under the law and ensure equality.”
Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Gurnee, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
