GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – Over thirty local teachers, school administrators, and area parents joined state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, for a forum on educational issues and policy on Tuesday at the Grayslake Area Public Library.

“The forecast for our colleges and local schools remains frighteningly unknown, it is critically important that I meet with all concerned residents and those in the education field to enlist their thoughts, concerns, and ideas as lawmakers try to forge a successful path forward,” Yingling said.

The discussed topics included school funding, standardized testing, pension reform, and the state’s overall fiscal health. Representatives from various area schools, libraries, school boards, and concerned citizens received an update about the state’s budget impasse and had an opportunity to have their questions answered by Yingling. The forum was one of many Yingling has offered as a part of his continued goal of being an accessible and open lawmaker.

“I am pleased many people from across the region were able to join me for this event,” Yingling continued. “Our children and young adults deserve the best education possible and I am confident that by working with every stakeholder, we can continue to improve our schools.”
