GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – After the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill last week to help fund scholarships that local hard-working families rely on to send their children to college, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is urging the governor to sign the measure into law.
“Ensuring access to quality higher education gives our area’s young adults a serious leg up in the job market helping make our state more economically competitive, and I strongly urge the governor to support this bill,” Yingling said.
Yingling is pressing Governor Rauner to sign Senate Bill 2043 into law. The measure would fund the Monetary Assistance Program (MAP) grants for working families with very limited income. These grants help offset the costs of attending college or a trades program. Such grants are awarded after a determination of needs has been satisfied and have not been dispersed since the budget impasses started months ago. The bill passed out of both chambers and is awaiting action from the governor.
“The MAP grant program may help someone attend college who may otherwise have been unable to. I look at it as an investment in our future,” Yingling said. “The gridlock in Springfield needs to come to an end without higher taxes or an erosion of the wages for middle-class families.”
Yingling represents the 62nd District, which contains portions of Gages Lake, Grayslake, Hainesville, the Round Lake communities, Wauconda and Wildwood.
