2018 HPHS Charity Drive Silent Auction Supports Cal's Angels

The 25th annual student fundraiser supports a charity devoted to helping kids with cancer.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Bidding is open for the hundreds of items that have been donated for the 2018 Highland Park High School Charity Drive. The HPHS community comes together every year to raise money for a selected charity. Last year's charity drive raised $140,456 for the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center – and student organizers hope to surpass that total this month in the 25th annual event.

This year's HPHS Charity Drive will benefit Cal's Angels. Named after a South Elgin boy who died in 2006, the organization's mission is to help children with cancer by funding wishes, granting wishes and raising awareness. According to District 113, the group visits the oncology floor at Lurie Children's Hospital every month and has helped thousands of kids over the past 10 years.

The school's charity drive tradition began in 1994 as an effort to add some pepe to mid-winter break between sports seasons, Highland Park News reported. It's raised more than $3 million dollars since then.
