CVS Pharmacy Staff Flee Pair Of Suspected Armed Robbers: Blotter
Wanted man blamed for golf club attack; thieves steal guitar, leather goods: Highland Park Police Blotter, July 22–Aug. 4

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS
THEFTS
- Someone stole a cellphone worth nearly $1,400 from inside a locked locker at the LA Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road.
- Sometime between the daytime hours of July 26 and the early morning of July 27, someone stole a $400 bike locked to a bike rack in the 700 block of St. Johns Avenue.
- A resident in the 400 block of Park Avenue reported around 1 p.m. on July 30 that someone stole a package worth $1,000 from a front porch during daytime hours on July 25.
- Someone stole a bicycle from a storage unit of a multi-unit building in the 500 block of Vine Avenue at some point prior to noon on July 31.
- Someone stole a $290 guitar from the Guitar Center at 143 Skokie Valley Road. It was discovered during while an inventory was being conducted and police were told on Aug. 2.
- A representative of Highland Pop, 2070 block of Green Bay Road, reported around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 that someone had been stealing pallets from the business.
- Staff at Kaehler Luggage, 670 Central Ave., reported around 11 a.m. on Aug. 4 that an unidentified thief had stolen $1,200 worth of various leather items the previous day.
ROBBERY ATTEMPT?
Two unidentified men or boys may have planned to rob the CVS store at 1539 Clavey Road around 4:30 a.m. on July 28. Police said the pair appeared to be holding handguns. Employees immediately fled the building through a door that triggered a fire alarm, and the two men ran away before officers arrived and searched the store. Nothing was stolen. Police said detectives were working to identify the suspects and no description or images from surveillance video were available for release.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 600 block of Mulberry Place reported that someone had broken into a home prior to 1 p.m. on Aug. 2. Several rooms were ransacked and jewelry and miscellaneous other items were stolen for an unspecified loss. Police had not identified any suspects at the time of the report.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole various pieces of optometry equipment from an unlocked car in the 1900 block of Green Bay Road at an unspecified time, police were told on Aug. 2.
ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 23-year-old Deerfield woman was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and issued a citation for use of electronic device while driving following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Central Avenue.
A 20-year-old Somerset, Kentucky, man was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on July 24 and charged with reckless driving and excessive speeding more than 35 mph over the limit following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. He was also issued citations for failure to signal, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.
Julieann Villa, 45, of the 200 block of West Grand Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 1 a.m. on July 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Central and St. Johns avenues. She was also issued citations for speeding, improper stop at intersection, failure to signal when required and failure to yield to authorized emergency vehicle.
Jonathan Hernandez, 18, of the 3300 block of Hood Avenue, Park City, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on July 26 and charged driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license and aggravated speeding in a construction zone following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Half Day Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and possession of cannabis.
Mark Hechter, 61, of the 30 block of Longmeadow, Winnetka, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on July 27 and charged with battery when police responded to a complaint regarding an allegation that he pushed a member of a cleaning crew at a business in the 1600 block of Deerfield Road.
Emilio Novelo, 21, of the 200 block of Jeffreys Place, Highwood, was arrested around 4 a.m. on July 30 and charged with possession of between 500 and 2000 grams of cannabis and the manufacture or delivery of between 500 and 2000 grams of cannabis following a traffic stop of a car in which Novelo was a passenger in the 300 block of Walker Avenue.
A 23-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 4:45 a.m. on July 30 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Walker Avenue. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.
Jack Thompson, 25, of the 3000 block of West Wells Street, Milwaukee, was arrested around 2:45 a.m. on July 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following an investigation into a two-car traffic crash at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
David Kohn, 42, of the 200 block of Sheridan Road, Highland Park, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and St. Johns Avenue. He was also ticketed for speeding.
Isaiah Thompson, 23, of the 1500 block of Seymour Avenue, North Chicago, was arrested around 4 a.m. on Aug. 3 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 3300 block of Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol, possession of cannabis and speeding.
Elias Valdovinos, 30, of the 4000 block of Talman Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with resisting police after the Highland Park Police Department was called to a dispute in the 1800 block of Second Street.
Michael Armstead, 52, of the 100 block of West Division Street, Chicago, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon to a person 60 after police were called to the intersection of Park and St. Johns avenues for a report that he had just hit a person with a golf club. It turned out he also had an active arrest warrant in Lake County issued in connection with a charge that he illegally triggered a fire alarm in June. He was ordered held in lieu of the $3,000 cash portion of his bail ahead of an Aug. 6 court date. In the same golf club-related incident, Darryl Ford, 67, of the 2000 block of West Morse Avenue, Chicago, was arrested on a separate arrest warrant.
