Applicants for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Highland Park – Highwood, Illinois – The Highland Park – Highwood Rotary Club encourages Highland Park High School Students to apply for the 2011 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).

The Highland Park – Highwood Rotary Club will sponsor up to four award recipients, who will participate in a three-day leadership-training program held at Edwards Camp and Conference Center in East Troy, Wisconsin, along with student leaders from more than 70 Rotary clubs in Rotary District 6440.

To qualify, applicants must have an active role in school activities and submit a short essay on the importance of leadership in a free society.

As one previous conference attendee stated “I can guarantee that every person who attends this conference will be motivated, energized and ready to lead.” Selected participants will attend either Session I from March 10 -13, 2011 or Session II from April 7 – 10, 2011. The three-day program includes motivational and educational speakers from around the country.

Upon completion of the program, RYLA students return to the Highland Park – Highwood Rotary Club and report what they learned about leadership. Rotarians invariably find the meeting with RYLA students one of the year’s most inspiring.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship and personal growth. The programs aims to:

  • Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth;
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders;
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth;
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering services to their community.
