Armed Robbery Attempt Reported At Gas Station: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

ARMED ROBBERY ATTEMPT
Police were dispatched to a gas station in the 1400 block of Park Avenue West for a report of a robbery attempt that had just occurred. An employee reported that someone described as a 5-foot, 10-inch white man with a medium build wearing a Chicago Blackhawks hat, black Blackhawks hoodie, black sweatpants, black gym shoes and white gloves had come into the store and brandished what looked like a handgun and demanded money. When the employee refused and called police, the robber ran away.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 600 block of Walnut Street reported at 10:42 p.m. on March 31 that someone had smashed a window and broken into their home. Nothing was reported missing and no suspects were identified at the time of the report.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole jewelry, a phone, a jacket and a purse with a combined value of about $6,000 from inside a car left unlocked in the 900 block of Stone Gate Drive during the overnight hours of March 27 to March 28.

  • Someone stole a package with property valued at $633 from the front porch of a home in the first block of Lakeside Place prior to 12:30 p.m. on March 28.
  • A resident in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road reported around 12:30 p.m. on March 29 that someone had stolen a wallet.
  • A resident in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road reported at 1:49 p.m. on March 29 that someone had stolen a wallet from their room.

ARRESTS

Roland Knap, 54, of the 300 block of Copper Canyon Trail, Cary, was arrested at 10:46 p.m. on March 30 and charged with two counts of domestic battery after police were called to an argument in the 2700 block of Skokie Valley Road.

Ramiro Patino-Soto, 50, of the 1400 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, North Chicago, was arrested at 2:31 a.m. on March 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above and driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Applewood Court. Police also issued him citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol.

Christian Rangel, 23, of the 1700 block of Old Deerfield Road, Highland Park, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. on March 31 and charged with attempted criminal damage to property after officers were dispatched to the scene of an argument in the 800 block of Sumac Road.
