AUDIO: Improperly Closed Session Of NSSD112 Board
Illinois Attorney General determined District 112 violated Open Meetings Act at board meeting.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The office of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan determined that a North Shore School District 112 board meeting violated the Open Meetings Act last year.
In a letter dated March 15, Assistant Attorney General Edie Steinberg wrote that the NSSD112 board violated the OMA during its Feb. 16, 2016 meeting because its discussions of architectural fees related to an upcoming referendum were not among the allowable reasons to go into closed session.
The non-binding ruling came as a result of an appeal process begun by local attorney Robert Bernat. Bernat also wanted to appeal whether or not the board had violated the OMA at other times, like the meeting in which the D112 approved the ill-fated referendum vote, but he missed the 60 day deadline to file a complaint.
