CARE Stands For Positive Change: Letter

Candidates endorsed by CARE "are independent, creative thinkers who don't subscribe to a single agenda," letter says.

Written and submitted by Jeff Hamburg

Contrary to recent false claims by fictitious characters (Pru Hoffman-- why don’t you appear
anywhere on the voter rolls?), CARE and its endorsed candidates stand for positive change that
serves the entire community. Yes, CARE opposed a very flawed plan, but we were not alone.
Some still bitter about the referendum’s defeat would like to reserve their anger and frustration
solely for CARE when, in effect, they essentially resent 70% of their voting neighbors, or
thereabouts. Maybe Pru feels marginalized and defeated, and perhaps that is why she is
venting her anger online.

Take heart Pru. CARE’s opposition to the flawed referendum was very constructive. CARE’s
deep analysis of the plan and its financial justification exposed the many mistakes and
assumptions underlying it. And then the Reconfiguration 2.0 Committee affirmed these findings.
Think about it, CARE’s work now permits a future Board and administration to correct those
errors in math and judgment. Pru, you should be saying “Phew!”

CARE’s endorsed candidates share our group’s commitment to facts, but they are independent,
creative thinkers who don’t subscribe to a single agenda. They also have a healthy respect for
community values. Go to our website and read their individual statements. You can also
contact them directly from the site for more input. Alexander Brunk, Brent Ross, and Julie
Campbell have served productively on the 2.0 Committee. Lisa Hirsh, like the rest of us, is not
a 2.0 member; she is merely very well-versed on reconfiguration and dual language, and is a
strong, knowledgeable advocate for special needs student issues. These four opposed the
referendum and the draconian BDR3 because they have always held a vision for a better plan.

Pretty positive, Pru.
