City Favors $500K Sale Of Highland Park Country Club Golf Course
Under the proposal, the park district would take over the club's green space and the city would keep the clubhouse.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Members of the Highland Park City Council signaled Monday they would be prepared to accept an offer of $500,000 from the Park District of Highland Park to buy the golf course at the Highland Park Country Club, Pioneer Press reported. In a stray poll, a majority of councilmen were in favor of selling the course to the park district before the end of the year.
Although the appraised value of the entire club is more than $1.5 million, the current proposal would allows the city to keep ownership of the clubhouse at the site, according to Highland Park News.
City officials are considering renovating banquet facilities at the site, and the park district intends to spend $1.4 million to remodel the 93-acre course into natural areas, walking paths and areas for stormwater management, Highland Park News reports.

The city would also keep ownership of the River's Edge Adventure Golf miniature golf course and the Golf Learning Center, which it would lease to the park district in a revenue-sharing arrangement.
The club's operating losses are estimated to be at least $138,000 next year, according to Pioneer Press, and neither the city nor the park district are looking to be on the hook to cover them.
