Deer Creek Courts Wins USTA Honor

The Highland Park tennis facility is one of 13 to be recognized nationwide this year.

The Deer Creek Courts in Highland Park is one of 13 winners nationwide in the 34th annual United States Tennis Association Facility Awards program, which recognizes excellence in the construction or renovation of tennis facilities.

The Highland Park facility was the only one listed under the USTA’s list of winners in the “Small Tennis Centers” category.

“It’s been a labor of love to serve our tennis community,” said Chris Wilsman, general manager of Deer Courts. “So, to be recognized by the USTA is a huge accomplishment for our team. The Park District strives for excellence in everything we do.

Since 1976, Deer Creek Courts has been the cornerstone of the tennis community on Chicago’s North Shore, according to a news release. The newly renovated club offers ADA accessibility features, numerous energy-efficient and other “eco-friendly” features along with comfortable gathering areas and locker rooms.

“Great tennis facilities like the Deer Creek Courts help us to grow the game at the grass-roots level, and we are proud to recognize them for their ongoing impact on the sport of tennis,” said Kurt Kamperman, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA. “Deer Creek Courts has embraced many of our tennis initiatives and kept the sport at the forefront of their community each year.”

Representatives of the Deer Creek Courts will be honored at the USTA Semi-annual Meeting in New York City on September 6.
