Is Highland Park's Mystery Feline This Kind of Cool Cat?
Police think the enigmatic animal spotted Sunday near Beech Street might be a resident's Savannah cat.

Oh, Scooby-Doo, where are you?
As a new wrinkle is added to the riddle of the "large feline-type animal" spotted near Beech Street, the only thing Highland Park needs is to have Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scoob drive up in the Mystery Machine and close the case for good.

On Sunday, a family sighted and shot video of a big, mysterious, cat-like creature wandering near a ravine in their neighborhood. But like in all the best Scooby-Doo mysteries, this as-yet-identified animal probably isn't some spectral, supernatural critter or a feral, primordial beast that time and evolution forgot.
Police might be close to solving the Case of the Bogus Bobcat on Beech Street now that they've identified their prime suspects: two Savannah cats owned by a neighbor, the Daily North Shore reports.

The owner of the cats, who lives around the 1100 block of Beech Street, contacted police after hearing about the sighting, and he "is 99 percent sure it is his Savannah cat," Deputy Chief Timothy Wilinski told the Daily North Shore.
Savannah cats are a breed that was created by mixing domestic felines with wild servals. The owners of the Highland Park Savannahs (which also would make a great name for a village a cappella group or barbershop quartet) told police he routinely leashes and walks his pets around the area, according to the North Shore.

While this news might come as a relief to residents, it also means, unfortunately, that, like in all the best Scooby-Doo mysteries, authorities won't eventually discover that the culprit is really a shifty, local land owner who is dressing up in a creepy cat costume as part of a scheme to swindle residents out of a secret silver mine hidden beneath the village hall.
