HPHS, DHS Singers Will Accompany Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Nearly 50 District 113 music students will sing as the Orchestra provides the musical score for two showings of "Home Alone."

The singers were selected through an audition process, and were given the opportunity through the choir directors at both schools, who are both members of the CSO.

“When the movie was made the score was done with a high school chorus and a full symphony,” Sheri Owens, choir director at HPHS, told Pioneer Press. Owens and DHS choir director Alicia Akers have been members of the CSO for 25 years, so familiarity between the professional and student group gave them the edge over other high schools who may have liked to have this chance.

“They knew we would be extra well prepared,” Owens said.

A total of 48 singers from District 113 will provide the musical voices when the symphony plays the score live during the movie’s 25th anniversary showings at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and 3 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13 at Chicago Symphony Center.
