Humanitarian Award Goes to Fair Housing Advocate

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - A longtime fair housing advocate has been selected to receive the 2016 Humanitarian Award by the city of Highland Park.

Alicia de la Cruz has worked with Open Communities, Neighbor by Neighbor and other organizations to help immigrants deal with issues in the United States, and has helped hold landlords more accountable when dealing with immigrants from Mexico.

According to the Highland Park Human Relation Commission, the body that selects the winner of the yearly award, the “Highland Park Humanitarian Award” recognizes someone who “has rendered outstanding service to the Highland Park community, who has a record of sustained giving and who has made a significant contribution to changing lives in Highland Park.”

De la Cruz was nominated by Holly Siegel, Tom Koulentes, Pablo Alvarez, Jacquie Denham and Jazmin Santiesteban. She will be honored at a ceremony on April 20.
