Illegal Gun, Narcotics Found After Traffic Crash: Blotter
Lake Forest man flees police; shoplifters make off with $5,000 worth of jackets: Highland Park Police Blotter, Oct. 14 to Oct. 20

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.
INCIDENTS
SHOPLIFTING

- Staff at the Guitar Center at 143 Skokie Valley Road discovered while doing inventory on the morning of Oct. 19 that someone had stolen a guitar worth $1,729.
- Staff at the Uncle Dan's outdoor store at 621 Central Ave. reported around 5:45 p.m. Oct. 20 that someone had stolen five Canada Goose brand jackets valued at about $5,000.
BIKE THEFT
A resident in the 400 block of Central Avenue reported around 4 p.m. Oct. 20 that someone had stolen a mountain bike from outside.
CAR BURGLARY
Someone burglarized a seemingly unlocked car in the 400 block of Central Avenue at some point prior to 5 p.m. Oct. 20. Various unspecified items were reported stolen.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Justin Jacobson, 21, of the 1000 block of South Mar Lane Drive, Lake Forest, was arrested at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 14 and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude police following a traffic stop at the intersection of Laurel and St. John's avenues. He was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
Sabri Hasan, 34, of the 400 block of Temple Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. Oct. 20 and charged with violation of an active order of Protection for the second time in 10 days after officers were called for a report that he had violated the order.
Stepfan Filipovic, 21, of the 2800 block of Central Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 7:15 a.m. Oct. 20 and charged with multiple felonies by officers investigating a two-car accident in the 3000 block of Skokie Valley Road where the other driver was taken to an emergency room. Police found a handgun in his car in plain view, though he did not have a valid firearm owners identification card, and found suspected narcotics, which have been sent to the crime lab for testing. Prosecutors approved charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, defacing identification marks on a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Filipovic, who had one passenger in the car with him, was also charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license and issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
