Mayor Appoints Alison Smith to Highland Park City Council

A public health professional will serve until a special election is held to determine replacement for Paul Frank.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - Alison P. Smith has been appointed to the Highland Park City Council to serve as the replacement for Lake County Commissioner Paul Frank until voters elect a full-time replacement in April.

Mayor Nancy Rotering will appoint Smith to the seat during the City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 12 with the consent of the council, according to a news release from the city.

Smith will serve until April, when a special election will take place to fill Frank's seat until the term expires in 2019. Three candidates have filed to run for the seat held by Frank, who resigned from the Council in November after he was elected to the Lake County Board.

“As a nursing and public health professional, I hope that my outlook on issues related to safety, access, prevention, and the social determinants of health such as education, nutrition, and housing, will help inform and advance the City’s priorities,” she said.

Rotering says Smith will bring "a record of experience in complex problem-solving, a passion for public service and an incredible work ethic."

"She will be a strong addition to the Council.”
