Moraine Township Board Seeks New Assessor

Township Assessor Cynthia Plouché resigned last week and will leave office June 11.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Moraine Township Assessor Cynthia Plouché will step down next month, citing personal reasons. The search is underway for her replacement, who will need to be a Democrat certified as an assessing officer in the state. The Board of Trustees Thursday accepted Plouché's resignation, which is effective June 11. The outgoing assessor will aid in the transition, according to Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.

The township is accepting applications through June 8. The board will then schedule interviews with qualified candidates. Under state law, Plouché's replacement must be a resident of Moraine Township, have a current and valid Certified Illinois Assessing Officer credential and be a member of the same party that is vacating the office.

Plouché previously served as a Moraine Township Trustee and has also served as a president of the Rotary Club of Highland Park-Highwood, a member of the board of North Shore District 112, Chicago High School for the Arts and the Illinois P-20 Council, according to material from her campaign for reelection last year.

“Cynthia is the consummate professional and a pleasure to work with. She will be missed,” Bassi said.

The job includes a $74,000 annual paycheck and supervises three full-time deputy assessor and one part-time deputy, according to Pioneer Press. Plouché ran opposed twice, in 2013 and again in 2017. The candidate selected by the board to fill the position will be up for election in April 2021.

“My corporate board responsibilities and volunteer work outside of Moraine Township have become more significant in the last year,” Plouché told Highland Park News. “I can no longer give as much time to the role of Assessor, and I feel it’s best if I help transition that work to someone who can give the role the time it deserves.”

Applicants have been asked to submit resume, cover letter and credentials no later than the end of business June 8:
