New Afternoon Farmers Market to Open in Highland Park this Fall

From the Producer of the Ravinia Farmers Market: Kicking Off Tuesday, September 4th at the Harvest Bible Chapel on Deerfield Road

HIGHLAND PARK, IL (SEPTEMBER 2018) – The Ravinia Farmers Market is excited to announce the opening of a new afternoon Highland Park Farmers Market which kicks off Tuesday, September 4th and will run every Tuesday through October 30th from 3-7:30 p.m. Located at the Harvest Bible Chapel, 1731 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, the new market will complement the 40-year old Ravinia Farmers Market that runs on Wednesdays.

“We are now able to offer the Farmers Market experience to a greater number of residents from Highland Park and surrounding communities,” says Ed Kugler, Market Manager for both Ravinia and the new Highland Park Farmers Markets. “They will now have two options, on two different days, at two different times, and in two different parts of town. It's a win-win for any Farmers Market-goer!”

The new Highland Park Farmers Market will host a variety of vendors who provide quality goods and services with a focus on fresh local produce, artisan and earth friendly products.

Deemed a natural and organic food guru and expert gardener, Highland Park resident Ed Kugler is the manager of both farmer markets. He was also a vendor at the Ravinia Farmers Market in its very first year as “the sprout man” with the Highwood organic sprouts business he opened in 1978. Also, over the past decade, Kugler has developed The Organic Teaching Garden where more than 200 students Highland Park High School’s AP and Environmental Science students take charge of plots. They will grow a variety of squash, kale, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and other vegetables that are sold at the farmers markets, donated to food pantries and incorporated into dishes at area restaurants.

The Organic Teaching Garden will help future generations understand to act now to preserve and care for our environment. This years’ program will kick off September 24th and 28th with an open house for all Highland Park High School students and parents on Sunday, September 30th.
