New School Boundaries Considered By D-112 Board
Current students could choose to switch schools or remain where they are under a new NSSD112 attendance boundary plan.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The topic of how to draw and and implement new school boundaries dominated discussions at Tuesday's meeting of the North Shore School District 112 Board of Education, as board members suggested the new attendance areas would be optional for current students. School administrations explained they have been running computerized tests on various new potential school boundaries since the board's last meeting, Highland Park News reported. Since families of current students are given a choice about which district school to attend, administrations said they will only have a range of how many students will be expected to attend any particular school.
The new boundaries will only apply to Braeside, Indian Trail, Ravinia, Sherwood and Wayne Thomas elementary schools, since Oak Terrace and Red Oak will become entirely dual language schools. The district's chief technology officer said there are currently more than 1,000 students in the dual language program up to eighth grade alone, an increase on past years, according to Daily North Shore. But a co-interim superintendent suggested the numbers of dual language students will likely decline in the future along with the district's overall enrollment.
