Featured Obituary:
Virginia “Ginny” Dillon, 90, died surrounded by her loving family on March 1, 2020 at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. Born on March 15, 1929 at U of C Hospital in Chicago, to the late John and Mary (Scanlon) Murray. Beloved wife of 56 years to the late William Dillon; loving mother of Brian ( Mickie), Mary Pat ( Dr. Michael) Fremgen, Maureen ( Dr. Thomas), late William Jr. ( Billy); cherished grandmother to Dr. Michael Fremgen, Matthew, and Molly Fremgen, Gina, Tom and Michelle Fiocchi, Christopher ( Melissa) and Jason (Tara) James, and great grandmother to Colin James; dear sister of Eileen ( late Ed) Ouimet, Joan (late Michael) Murphy, and late Patty ( Bill) Lichtenstein; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Ginny moved to Deerfield in 1955, where they resided for their lifetime, becoming life-long members of Holy Cross Parish where she dedicated her time to supporting church services, ministries and the school where her children attended. The church community was the the center of her life and the friendships she developed were cherished and loved as family. Attending daily mass and meeting for coffee with her “angels” was a treasured event and 36 years of their non-gourmet group created everlasting memories for her to reminisce on.
As a grandmother, her grand children were her pride and joy. She embraced their lives, attended events, cared and worried, shared wisdom and stories of the past, and felt blessed with the precious moments they were together. Holidays were always made special, including her decorated home and outfits to match.
Born to Irish immigrants and living on the south side of Chicago, she was deep -rooted in Irish tradition, Celtic dancing and playing the flute in the Chicago Irish Pipe Band. For Ginny, St. Patrick’s Day was never a day but a month long tribute to Irish Culture, wearing shamrocks from head to toe, singing Irish ballads and sharing Irish soda bread with her friends. It was the most celebrated time of the year for her. And now her memory will forever be carried on and celebrated during her favorite month of March.Read more from Kelly and Spalding Funeral Home & Crematory »
