Pot Crackdown at Ravinia a Response to Previous Issues: Cops

Cops in Highland Park say "Umphrey's McGee" performances have resulted in drug and alcohol related medical transports.

Police in Highland Park increased their presence during Friday night’s “Umphrey’s McGee” performance at Ravinia Festival due to “a history of ordinance violations and medical transports related to alcohol and drug use” during previous performances by the group at the venue.

The result was 29 individuals being cited for various offenses including possession of cannabis, possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia. One person was arrested for striking a Ravinia Security guard.

“Police staffing and assignments for the event were modified in 2015 to keep the many patrons safe and free from disturbance,” according to a police news release issued Tuesday.

Police estimate about 8,000 patrons attend Ravinia during “Umphrey’s McGee” performances. The alleged violators on Friday came from several municipalities across three states, but did not include a single resident of Highland Park.
