Our community stepped up and voted yes to D113's recent referendum after a community effort reworked and prioritized a well thought out second offering versa a hastily presented initial one two years ago.
During the debate, several opposing were against the referendum based on taxes or the opinion that it had no positive effect on them. Perhaps their children were out of school, they may have a fixed income or they simply did not want it to pass.
While this is now old news, let there be no doubt that D112 will seek additional funds in the next couple of years as their infrastructure continues to age. Time and a thoughtful process will judge the merits of that offering.
However, I wanted to clarify that our schools do make a BIG difference on the viability and desirability of our community. One of our local remodel projects just went under contract to a family with 3 children moving to Illinois. They told me that they chose the SCHOOL DISTRICT they wanted their children to be in before they began to look at homes and that drove their new geographical location within the greater Chicago area. (Highland Park).
Again, our schools are the draw that keeps our community vitalized, energized and our property prices where they are even with our high taxes!
