Alcohol and speed were identified as the primary factors in the crash. Investigators believe Orihuela was speeding east on North Bonnie Brook Lane in a black 2008 Ford Fusion around 10:45 p.m when he lost control of the car, left the road and struck a tree at North Lewis Avenue police said.

Both men were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and both were taken to an area hospital, according to police. Orihuela was treated for moderate injuries and released, while Ocampo was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the coroner, preliminary autopsy results suggest Ocampo died from his injuries from the crash. The investigation is ongoing and the results of a toxicology test remain pending.

In addition to misdemeanor DUI and felony reckless homicide charges, Orihuela was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, missing lights on his car and disregarding a stop sign.

Reckless homicide is a class 3 felony, punishable by up to five years in state prison. Orihuela is due back in court on July 23.
