Referendum More About Board's Ego Than Educating Children: Letter

Nearly 2,000 middle schoolers conveying on one school is "completely out of scale" for community, George Pieracci writes.

The following letter was written and submitted by George Pieracci.

It is becoming increasing clear that School District 112 Board didn't do their homework on this referendum.

Throughout this whole process they have asked us to trust them. I have listened and read their plan about pods, teams, busing, and one large school on the west side of town for 1900 students. I have not been impressed with their grandiose plan. This is more about the District 112 Board's ego, then about educating our children.

They are so determined to get their plan passed. They've given us ultimatums, the wrong projected tax revenue, projected savings, and even had Springfield pass legislation to void financial safeguards against massive referendums.

In the past weeks we have learned that this is not the last referendum needed for this plan.

I am retired. During my career I was involved in the construction of many schools. Having 1,900 10-to-13 year old students converging upon one school is completely out of scale for our community. How many students will "Fall Through The Cracks" in this "Big Box" educational environment?

Let's improve upon the current system. There are two new families on my street, who like my wife and I moved here for the great neighborhood schools. We all have No signs in front of our homes. Please join us and Vote No to protect quality education in District 112.
