A home safe filled with cash, jewelry and documents was stolen | Smoldering toilet paper roll | Two people found passed out in their cars.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Police arrived at a home in the 700 block of Central Avenue at 11:45 a.m. on Aug.30 for the report of a burglary. Police said a heavyset male was wearing a blue T-shirt and grey camouflaged shorts along with a black mask and black gloves. The man was seen opening the door, police said. No items were reported stolen, and nothing appeared disturbed in the home.
Police arrived at the home in the 700 block of Central Avenue at 1:47 p.m. on Aug. 30. No forced entry was detected, and a laptop computer was reported stolen from the home.

Police arrived at a home in the 1600 block of Green Bay Road at 8:24 p.m. on Sept. 1 and a home safe was reported pried from the wall. A substantial amount of jewelry, sterling silverware, documents and cash were reported taken. No forced entry was detected, and a back door was found unlocked by police officers.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
An unknown suspect or suspects reportedly damaged the gazebo behind the Highland Park Country Club at 1207 Park Ave at 8:05 a.m. on Sept 4. West along the Preserves of Highland Park. Numerous vertical posts of the fencing around the gazebo were found broken off.
Police were informed of a report of smoke coming from inside of the warming house men’s restroom at 1801 Sunset Rd. at 10:52 a.m. on Sept. 4. A toilet paper roll was discovered to be smoldering and the plastic housing was damaged from the heat. The roll was removed and extinguished.
ARRESTS
Kevin B. Peil, 60, Wauconda, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and driving with a revoked or suspended license at 2:51 a.m. on Sept. 4. Peil was arrested after police were called to the 1400 block of Park Avenue West for a well-being check after two people were reported passed out in a car. Peil was taken to the Lake County Jail where he was later released. Peil will appear in court at a later time.
Faisal S. Quadrio, 26, Hainesville, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured vehicle and illegal parking or stopping at 6:20 a.m. Sept. 4. Police arrived at the 1900 block of Skokie Valley Road for a well-being check and found Quadrio passed out behind the wheel of his car. Quadrio was arrested and charged and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 24 in Waukegan.
