SWALCO Reaches Deal to Keep Free Recycling Program
Scaled-back program agreement came on same day gradual shutdown was to begin.

Just as officials began shutting down the free electronics recycling program at the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO), an agreement was reached to continue the program in a scaled-back state, the Glencoe News reported.
The deal was between SWALCO’s executive committee and Dynamic Recycling, which will use no more than $200,000 from reserve funds.
Walter Willis, executive director of the agency, said those looking to recycle larger electronic items should still hold off until revised arrangements are squared away next week.

“We’ve got 18 sites right now that are in various stages of being shut down [and] the containers are being pulled,” Willis said on Friday. “So what we’ve done on our website is we’ve taken down all those locations, because we’re not exactly sure which ones are still accepting material.”
