HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING

  • Four unidentified men or boys stole various pieces of electronics valued at more than $1,100 from an unspecified business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road sometime on April 9, police were told on April 14.
  • An unidentified man stole a bottle of alcohol worth $43 from an unspecified business in the 100 block of Skokie Valley Road sometime on April 13, police were told on April 15.
  • Two people stole about $600 worth of electronics from an unspecified business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road around 7:30 p.m. on April 13, police were told on April 19.
  • An unidentified woman or girl stole an unknown amount of cosmetic items from an unspecified business, police were told around 3 p.m. on April 20.
  • Someone stole $157 worth of electronics and alcohol from an unspecified business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road around 7 p.m. on April 23, police were told on April 27.
  • Around 3:45 p.m. on April 26, someone stole an air purifier worth about $500 from an unspecified business in the 2000 block of Skokie Valley Road.

THEFT
Someone stole two skateboards from the front yard of a home in the 2800 block of Patten Road, police were told around 3:30 p.m. on April 20.

PORCH PIRACY
A resident in the 1800 block of Cavell Avenue reported around 3:30 p.m. on April 22 that someone stole a package from the front porch of a home.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole multiple construction tools of unspecified value from inside a vehicle in the 200 block of Melba Lane early in the afternoon of April 23. Police did not indicate whether the car was locked or not.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A resident in the 3400 block of Krenn Avenue reported around 12:30 p.m. on April 21 that someone had damaged a fence at Old Elm Park.
  • A resident in the 200 block of Bloom Street reported around 2 p.m. May 2 that someone had scratched a vehicle with a key during the previous night.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Janet Kaczor, 56, of the 900 block of Pine Street, Winnetka, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. on April 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 41 and Route 60. She was also issued citations for improper lane usage, improper use of a turn signal, improper passing on a shoulder and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Mikayla Bernardi, 26, of the 700 block of St. John's Avenue, Highland Park, was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on April 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a one-car crash in the 400 block of Orchard Avenue. She was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.
