Trees on Central Ave. Will Be Replaced This Spring
16 declining Linden trees in Highland Park's Central Business District will soon be replaced with planters.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - Sixteen trees on Central Avenue will soon be removed and replaced with planters in the Central Business District, the city of Highland Park’s Office of Business Development announced Wednesday in a newsletter.
City Forester Joe O’Neill contend that the Linden trees in that area have been declining for several years due to “reduced rooting area, watering challenges, excavation for annual flower planting and reflective heat from surrounding impervious surfaces.”
Eight will be removed this spring from the south side of Central Ave. between Green Bay Rd. and Second St. and the north side of Central Ave. between Second St. and First St. The 16 planters that will replace them will contain two trees apiece, doubling the number that are currently there.
