'Disruption' Cited For Hinsdale D-181 Remote Day

The school district is going to remote instruction Monday.

HINSDALE, IL — School District 181 in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills decided late Sunday to designate Monday as an emergency day and carry out remote learning.

On Friday, a Sangamon County judge granted a temporary restraining order suspending enforcement of mask mandates, affecting nearly 150 defendant school districts, including District 181.

"Due to the multiple interpretations of the ruling and the status of the state mandates, there is a strong likelihood that there will be a disruption in our schools, which will have a substantial negative impact on the delivery of instruction and the health and safety of our students and staff," District 181's statement said.

The district said it understood that this may cause scheduling issues for families. But given the nature of the issue, the district said it wanted to be as thorough as possible as it reviews the implications of the case.

Administrators said they would meet with the school board on Monday night in preparation for Tuesday's plan. Then a message would be sent to families, the district said.

No board meeting had been scheduled as of early Monday morning, according to the district's website. Under state law, such a meeting must be publicized.

The attorney general is appealing the judge's ruling.
