HINSDALE, IL – Three customers of Fontano's Subs in Hinsdale who were injured when a car crashed into the deli are suing the car wash across the street.

Sophia Ricciardi, Michal Lizler and Connor J. Sullivan filed the lawsuit against Fuller's Car Wash, 102 Chicago Ave., in Cook County Court.

In the July 17 crash, Sean Patrick Richards, 14, of Hinsdale, was walking by the deli when he was struck by the vehicle. He died a few days later.

The three injured customers were inside the restaurant.

According to the lawsuit, a teenage employee of Fuller's was driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler out of the car wash. He ended up driving through the parking lot, across Lincoln Street and into the restaurant, the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit alleges Fuller's failed to provide the employee with adequate training, instruction and experience so that he could drive a car in a reasonably safe manner.

The lawsuit also said Fuller's failed to bar the use of vehicles known to encounter "sudden acceleration" in the car wash.

Besides Fuller's, the lawsuit also names the teenager and his father as defendants.

The three customers are represented by Louis Cairo of Chicago-based GWC Injury Lawyers.

A woman answering the phone at Fuller's on Thursday afternoon said the owner did not have a comment on the lawsuit.
