HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale Central High School's pool reopened Monday after a more than five-month closure.

On Monday morning, the school's spokesman, Alex Mayster, said the pool facility passed a state Department of Public Health inspection, allowing the facility to open.

The pool closed May 1 for the replacement of tiles, which were reported to be a problem since the multimillion-dollar pool opened in 2021.

The original aim was to reopen the pool in early August in time for the girls swim season.

But the contractor warned of delays over the summer, frustrating girls swim team parents. Since at least August, the school has said the pool would reopen Oct. 7, which is Monday.

It was important for the team's parents to reopen in time for this Friday, which is senior night.

The problems with the tile were attributed to contractors, who covered the project's costs.
