HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale High School District 86 is considering a partnership with a top tech company to use AI in the classroom.

At last week's school board meeting, Nvidia representatives Michael Isadore and Louis Stewart remotely presented their company's offerings. Isadore is a Hinsdale resident.

The opportunity was brought forward by Hinsdale Village President Greg Hart, said Catherine Greenspon, the board's president.

"I have had the great fortune to meet with Louis and Michael a couple of times already for some general discussions," Greenspon said.

An AI program called StudyFetch, which is connected to Nvidia, can help teachers and students, she said.

Stewart told the board that AI allows teachers to customize their lessons for each student based on their strengths.

"The students, when they work on (the program), it's actually giving feedback to the teacher, so the teacher can change things around," he said.

Hinsdale Central's principal, Bill Walsh, asked how AI works with students in building their own capacities to think and write for themselves.

Stewart said AI platforms let teachers focus on helping students with their "more human" skills, such as creativity and critical thinking.

Isadore added, "You're not going to lose your job to AI, you're going to lose your job to someone who knows how to use AI."

Greenspon said District 86 could be at the forefront nationally in carrying out AI for educational uses. The district could also become a voice in creating state AI policy.

"It's a great opportunity for all of us," she said.

She proposed a working group made up of her, board member Mary Satchwell and administrators.

She said the board could decide on a formal partnership with Nvidia for a pilot program at a meeting later this month.
