Hinsdale's Lucie Ticho Showcased in Shostakovich Cello Concerto at CYSO Concert Nov. 23

Shostakovich's "Festive Overture," Theofanidis' "As Dancing is to Architecture," Lutosławski's" Concerto for Orchestra complete the program.

Hinsdale’s Lucie Ticho is the featured cellist when Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) Symphony Orchestra performs Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Cello Concerto No. 1” in Eb major, op. 107, at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, Sunday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Under the baton of CYSO Music Director Allen Tinkham, the Orchestra will also perform Shostakovich’s “Festive Overture;” Christopher Theofanidis’ “As Dancing is to Architecture” and Witold Lutosławski’s “Concerto for Orchestra.”

Composed in 1959, Shostakovich’s “Cello Concerto No. 1 in Eb major” was written for Shostakovich’s friend, famed cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. It has gone on to become one of the most beloved works for cello.

Ticho, currently a junior at Hinsdale Central High School, joined CYSO at age 10. She has also performed as a soloist with the Elgin Symphony, CYSO Encore Chamber Symphony, the Northwest Symphony, and the West Suburban Symphony; and was a featured solo artist on NPR’s From the Top national radio broadcast this past fall.
