Speaker Series to Kick Off Oct. 7 with Author Rosalind Wiseman
Wiseman is known for her books "Queen Bees & Wannabes" and "Masterminds & Wingmen."

Hinsdale Township High School District 86 is bringing three authors to the village this year for its Community Speaker Series.
First up, author Rosalind Wiseman will speak Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Hinsdale Central Auditorium, according to a Dist. 86 news release. She will also host a second presentation Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Community House.
Wiseman is known for her books “Masterminds & Wingmen” and “Queen Bees & Wannabes,” which inspired the movie “Mean Girls.”
The series aims to “inform and inspire families about issues in education and parenting,” according to the statement.
“This is truly a community-based program led by a committee with members from both Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South, their feeder schools and the D181 Foundation,” said Hinsdale Central PTO President Nancy Pollak in the statement. “We have a sub-committee of specialists in social-emotional learning and parent education that makes recommendations based on current trends and thought leaders, and we have a list of topics that our parents have told us they are interested in learning more about. Then, we find speakers that fill those niches. Coordinating dates with the speakers and schools can be daunting, but everyone pitches in and it just works.”
Wiseman’s presentations are free, though registration is required in advance. Registration can be completed online.
The second speaker in the series will be Sian Beilock, author of “Choke.” She will present on Feb. 10. Robert Brooks, author of “Raising Resilient Children” will wrap up the series on April 29 and 30.
