HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale is poised to hire a contractor to repave five local streets and the pool's parking lot this year, costing $1.4 million.

Ten companies bid on the work, up from seven last year. Cicero-based M&J Asphalt, which was the highest bidder last year, was the lowest this go-around.

This year, the highest bidder was Cicero-based J. Nardulli Concrete, at nearly $1.8 million.

The Village Board is set to vote on the low bidder at a meeting later this month.

At Tuesday's meeting, Trustee Luke Stifflear asked whether the village usually gets so many bidders.

In response, George Peluso, the village's top public works official, said the village went out to bid earlier than usual.

"The earlier we get bids out on the road, the better it is for our pricing," he said. "People are trying to fill their calendars, so when they get busier, they usually put bigger numbers on these jobs."

The village is a month ahead of where it was a year ago with repaving bids.

Burr Ridge's board often chooses its resurfacing contractor in January.
