Lockport Police Warn Residents Of Possible Phone Scam
The resident questioned the caller because she was suspicious about the phone call, so it is not known what the caller was trying to do.

LOCKPORT, IL — The Lockport Police Department is warning residents of a possible phone scam where caller ID shows the number coming from Lockport Police Department. Police said a resident reported they had received a call from the police department's Criminal Investigation Unit. The resident’s caller ID showed that the call came from 815-838-2131. The caller hung up when the resident asked to take a message.
Police said this call did not come from the Lockport Police Department. The resident questioned the caller because she was suspicious about the phone call, so it is not known what the caller was trying to accomplish, but was most likely a scam.
The phone number that showed on the caller ID is the non-emergency number of the Lockport Police Department. Police said the department will never contact residents and ask for personal information or to request money.

If you receive a phone call from the department's phone number and are suspicious, inform the caller that you will be hanging up and calling back. You can then call the department at 815-838-2132 during normal business hours or at 815-838-2131 after hours to verify if they called you.
