On Tuesday, Will County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Oak Avenue, just west of Brassel Street for a shooting, the sheriff's office said. Witnesses had called 911 and told police that the victim, identified as Patrick Taylor, 39, of Lockport, was walking down the street when a man in a red Ford conversion van shot Taylor.

Witnesses also told police that an argument had started between Taylor and an unknown person, later identified, as Green, who had been driving the red van. Green then fired a weapon in the direction of Taylor, who was shot multiple times, police said.

At 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies found Green not far from the scene in a different vehicle, police said. He was taken into custody for an outstanding Illinois Department of Corrections warrant that had no bond, according to police.

Deputies also found the red van several miles away, on Florence Avenue in Joliet, police said. The vehicle was removed and processed for evidence.

Green was taken to the Will County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Complex for questioning in regard to the shooting, police said. Green refused to make any statements to detectives, and was later transported to the Will County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Facility for his outstanding warrant, according to police.

The sheriff's office secured an arrest warrant for the murder charge on Thursday, police said.

“I would like to thank the fine men and women at the Will County Sheriff’s Office, for their outstanding work, dedication, and determination exhibited in this case. Everyone involved in this case, including the patrol officers, supervisors, detectives, and crime scene technicians worked together as a team to bring this killer to justice. This was true teamwork at its finest," Sheriff Mike Kelley said in a release.

Kelley thanked the public for their assistance with the investigation.

“Once the Will County Sheriff’s Office put out information asking for the public’s help in this investigation, the community came together to try and assist detectives in any way possible," Kelley said. "Without citizens coming forward in this case and providing detectives with critical information, this case would have been far more difficult to solve.”
